WHO trong mệnh đề quan hệ khi nói về người, thay cho he / she / they.

Khi nói về đồ vật, chúng ta dùng WHICH.

Dùng THAT thay thế cho WHO và WHICH, nghĩa là THAT dùng được cho cả người và vật.

WHOSE dùng trong mệnh đề quan hệ thay cho his / her / their, mang nghĩa sở hữu, chủ yếu dùng cho người.

WHOM được dùng khi nó là túc từ của động từ trong realative clause, và có thể dùng với 1 giới từ (to/from/with WHOM)

WHERE dùng trong mệnh đề quan hệ chỉ nơi chốn.
